A defective mind link turns the logical Mr. Spock
into a fiery revolutionary who sets out to convert
the planet Kryos with fire, sword and a forbidden philosophy.
Captain Kirk and the Enterprise crew must summon all their
skill and cunning in a race against time on a hostile
planet. Can they destroy the fiendish mind that holds
Spock captive before it destroys them?

Captain Kirk:
No longer the void. I have been touched. I have been
annointed. I have seen. The gods move in mysterious
ways: the strangest of these is that they should select
a poor Vulcan-Human hybrid as the agent through
which their will is to be done. Kyros reeks with sin:
flame and sword shall cleanse it.

You will say that in doing this I am violating General
Order One. So be it. I obey a higher law. I realize that
you, who have not been touched by the light, will
feel compelled to use your resources to thwart my
mission. I do not underestimate the mighty forces
the Enterprise can bring to bear. I have therefore
disabled the warp drive by removing the trilithium
crystals, ensuring that you and your ship remain neutral
in the coming struggle between good and evil.

It may be that once Kyros is purged, the gods will
wish to use the Enterprise to bring the light to their
systems: for the moment, you will remain in orbit and
be prepared to render such assistance to my mission
as I and the gods deem necessary.
Let there be peace between us.

TREKKIEGUY'S REVIEW

Oh man . . . feel free to skip this one.
I think the rating says it all.
This one didn't impress me one bit.

The early novels sure focused a lot on Mr. Spock,
which is fine, if it was done right.
